Mom in critical condition after rushing into burning building to save daughter

A heroic Brooklyn mom is fighting for her life after she ran into a burning building to rescue her two-year-old daughter, who was seriously injured in a blaze, authorities said.

The fire started at about 9:15 a.m. inside the Clarendon Road apartment building near East 32nd Street in Flatbush, officials said.

“She was screaming. She was getting burnt by the flames coming from the second floor window, then she hopped back into get her kids,” Battalion Chief McCarthy with battalion 41 said at the scene.

“You couldn’t see anything there was so much smoke. I just saw a jumble of bodies. Hopefully they’re all right,” said Firefighter Marchese, 34, who found the bodies of three unconscious women in a bedroom engulfed in flames.

Teen Keisha Lewis said the scene was chaotic.

“I heard someone screaming, fire, fire, then I heard a fire alarm. I woke up my mom. We tried to get out the door but there was too much thick black smoke,” said Lewis, 14.

“I started screaming by the window. Smoke was coming into my room. I shut the door and put a towel under the door. We climbed out the window down the ladder. It was completely scary. You couldn’t see anything in our apartment because of the smoke,” she added.

Another woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, and three others refused medical attention at the scene.

The 2-year-old girl was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center where she is being treated for serious injuries.

Her mom was sent to Kings County Hospital is critical condition, authorities said.
