You’ve seen her act on “Glee” — and now you can “See Jane Sing.”
Jane Lynch, fresh off her run as snarky Sue Sylvester on the long-running Fox dramedy, brings her musical comedy tour to the area April 23 (the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ). It’s the seventh stop for the “See Jane Sing” tour, which kicked off March 6 in Austin, Texas.
“We kinda started it at 54 Below [on West 54th] with four nights there,” says Lynch. “It’s a 90-minute show including my opening act, Tim Davis, who’s a wonderful crooner and a good friend of mine. It’s fast-paced and hopefully really funny with many different varieties of music; we’ve got a couple of jazz numbers and some Broadway songs we’ve re-imagined. We have an angle on everything.”
Lynch’s act also includes sidekick Kate Flannery (“Parks and Recreation”). “She comes on almost a third of the way through and sings backup,” says Lynch. “She’s hilarious. We have our little patter; she’s both supporting me and doing her own thing. She’s a great sidekick — as a sidekick myself I totally appreciate that.”
Lynch, who also hosts NBC’s “Hollywood Game Night,” says she had the idea for the “See Jane Sing” tour after appearing in “Annie” on Broadway (as Miss Hannigan) in 2013. “I did straight plays and Second City back in Chicago and I’ve always loved to sing,” she says. “And doing ‘Annie’ reignited that fire.”
He’s stretched a bit thin
But no pressure. Really.
USA will build a late-night talk show and a spinoff show around “Chrisley Knows Best” patriarch Todd Chrisley.
That’s a lot for one guy to handle, even if “Chrisley Knows Best” has done well for USA (averaging 2.3 million viewers last season). Both new Chrisley shows are in the “ink isn’t yet dry” department.
More: I asked Cameron Mathison about his new gig as a correspondent and weekend co-anchor on “Entertainment Tonight” (he also contributes to “GMA”).
“It’s such a great fit for me,” he says. “It’s rare to walk in on your first day and for it to be effortless. That’s how good they are and how welcoming everyone has been.”
Last, but not least …
Award-winning filmmakers Joan Kramer and David Heeley, who were featured Tuesday on TCM, have authored “In The Company of Legends,” out April 16 (Beaufort Books). It’s an anecdotal look at their work with Paul Newman, Jane Fonda and a bevy of A-listers … Disney X D’s “Star vs. The Forces of Evil” snared 1.2 million viewers — the top animated series debut in the network’s 15-year history … HBO’s “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst” is out on Digital HD (iTunes, Google Play, etc.).
