Hollywood’s new It bag is a $1,600 clutch that looks like a pack of chips

What’s one indulgence diet-prone celebrities can’t seem to resist? Say hello to the Anya Hindmarch “Crisp Packet” clutch — a pricey, snack-sized bag that’s sweeping Hollywood faster than the latest juice cleanse.

This piece was quite literally inspired by a packet of crisps [potato chips] and my love of giving everyday items a luxury treatment by incredible craftsmen.

“This piece was quite literally inspired by a packet of crisps [potato chips] and my love of giving everyday items a luxury treatment by incredible craftsmen,” Hindmarch says of her petite, crinkly creation. “It is really modern, and a sort of forever classic, I think.”

The A-list clearly agrees. Kerry Washington, Lily James and Olivia Wilde have all been snapped carrying the Jeff Koons-esque pouch in the past few weeks.

“It goes with anything and everything,” says Lucky Editor-in-Chief Eva Chen, who snagged her bag at Hindmarch’s London flagship when they first hit shelves a little over a year ago as part of the designer’s spring 2014 collection.

It became an instant hit.

Emma Watson toted a silver metallic version to last year’s Oscars in March, two months before Solange Knowles hurled her gold-toned Crisp at brother-in-law Jay Z during their infamous post-Met Gala elevator brawl. A week after the high-profile scuffle, the Hindmarch camp slyly tweeted an ad featuring the bag with the slogan “Worth Fighting For” stamped across it.

The standard Crisp — made of brass painted with rich metallic and neon hues — sells for $1,595 at Barneys and websites like Net-a-Porter. For those with decadent tastes, UK fashion mecca Selfridges offers limited-edition styles in 18-karat yellow, rose or white gold, made to order for about $88,400.

Adds Chen: “It’s one of those pieces that’s so out there and unique and [yet] is oddly neutral.” Not to mention calorie-free.
