A Brooklyn man who tried to use his girlfriend’s two dogs as an alibi in her stabbing death was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison — and still denied committing the murder.
“I want to apologize to the Figueroas,” killer Nathan Rosa said in Brooklyn Supreme Court, even as he insisted. “I will maintain my innocence. I was innocent.”
His half-hearted apology to Angie Figueroa’s family, who crowded the courtroom for the sentencing, prompted them to scoff in disgust.
In response, one of Rosa’s relatives screamed, “This is an injustice! These f—-g people don’t know s–t!” before getting booted from the courtroom.
Rosa beat and fatally stabbed Figueroa, 40, in their Bushwick apartment in 2011.
He told her family, who became worried when she didn’t answer texts or phone calls, that he didn’t know what happened and had her two Pomeranians.
But Figueroa’s older sister Victoria Osorio grew suspicious, knowing that Angie would never be separated from her beloved pups.
Jurors also didn’t buy Rosa’s story, convicting him of second-degree murder and weapons possession last month.
Four of Figueroa’s relatives emotionally addressed Rosa, 43, in court prior to Judge Ruth Shillingford slapping him with maximum sentence.
“Why did you take her from me if all Angie did was adore and love you and she gave you everything, ultimately even her life?” asked Osorio.
“Now it’s your turn to live where we have lived for the past four years — in the darkest hell.”
Rosa’s attorney said he plans to appeal.
Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson said in a statement: “We hope that his long prison sentence will provide some comfort to Ms. Figueroa’s heartbroken family.”
