The gravestone of Hillary Clinton’s father was toppled over this week — just one day after she threw her hat into the ring for the 2016 presidential race.
Investigators are looking into claims that politics may have played a role, local ABC affiliate WNEP reports.
Washburn Street Cemetary caretaker Paul McGloin first noticed that Hugh Rodham’s headstone had been knocked off its base on Monday afternoon, while he was driving by the grounds.
“It was just laying down just right like that, boom,” he told WNEP. “I pass here five, six times a day because I live two blocks from here and when I looked I couldn’t believe it, to see that it was tipped over.”
McGolin explained that he has taken care of Rodham’s marker since meeting the Clintons during his funeral in 1993. He added that it had been secure and intact on Friday — making him suspect that Clinton’s announcement on Sunday was to blame.
“Like I said, as long as I`ve been coming here, the headstone has been pretty secured around the base of it,” he said. “And all of a sudden the headstone is tipped over…”
