“Inside Amy Schumer,” one of the funniest sketch comedy shows on TV right now, returns for its third season Tuesday night — and we’re so excited we’re going to O’Nutters to celebrate. The show has been rightfully praised for its incisive wit that slices open prickly social issues ranging from military sexual assault to loaded female friendships.
And this season looks to start out just as strong: One of the first sketches, released as a preview, takes on pop culture’s recent obsession with the booty.
The show returns tonight at 10:30 on Comedy Central. But in case you missed the show’s first two seasons, catch up with our picks for the show’s 10 best sketches. Take a look:
10. “Sex Tips,” Season 1
Schumer, posing as a women’s magazine editor, dispenses with the cutting, confidence-undermining tips those magazines are famous for.
“Great job on the ‘30 Ways To Know You’re 20 Pounds Overweight’ article,” she yells. “I heard most girls were crying by Number 7!”
9. “Cancer Excuse,” Season 1
Amy’s friend Tig has cancer, and that’s very hard on Amy. The hilarity of this bit is underlined by dark humor: Tig Notaro really does have cancer, and the combo of how she deals with it onstage and how it played out on Schumer’s show gave audiences a wry look at handling the disease.
8. “Herpes Scare,” Season 2
Getting Paul Giamatti to star as God in this segment is funny enough, let alone when paired with Schumer’s scheming about just how bad herpes is to deal with compared to other adult responsibilities.
7. “Mom Computer Therapy,” Season 2
If you’ve ever gotten frustrated with your parents when trying to show them simple things on the computer, maybe you should consider going to therapy.
6. “Sexting,” Season 1
Pull back the mysterious allure of the shroud of texts, and you might not like what you see — namely, a girl eating noodles in her pajamas.
5. “Compliments,” Season 1
Amy Schumer’s barbs at the self-hating habits of her fellow women comes to a fine point here, when her group of friends fear taking a compliment at risk of death.
4. “Hello M’Lady,” Season 2
The ultimate app for warning you about nice guys, Hello M’ladies aren’t stalkers — they just make you feel guilty.
3. “Lunch at O’Nutters,” Season 1
Envisioning what Hooters would look like if it were targeted for a female clientele shows just how silly Hooters looks overall.
2. “Very Realistic Military Game,” Season 2
Almost too real to be funny, Schumer plays her boyfriend’s military game, only to get sexually assaulted and stuck down a not very fun wormhole of paperwork and character assassination.
1. “The Foodroom,” Season 2
Schumer creates a pitch-perfect parody of Aaron Sorkin-style pedantic, dialogue-heavy drama, and sets it in a fast food restaurant. Better yet, she gets Josh Charles, star of Sorkin’s “Sports Night,” to guest star.
