A troubling tattoo and a bizarre interview. Yep, Birdman’s offseason is going just how we expected.
Chris Andersen, already the NBA’s most recognizable bench player with his signature Mohawk and full-body canvas of colorful tattoos, has used the Miami Heat’s playoff-less April to add yet more ink.
And this one is weird and macabre even by his lofty standards: “GIVE ME WAR,” on the back of the neck, with two skulls on his skull.
But good luck getting an explanation out of the 36-year-old veteran forward, who remains infamous for serving a two-year NBA suspension for “drugs of abuse.” His final interview of the season veered into almost nonsensical territory, according to the Palm Beach Post. Here are a couple of highlights:
Q: [The injury bug] was a lot of instability to deal with.
Andersen: Up and down, side to side, like my ’67 truck. Know what I’m saying?
Q: How much do you have left at this point in your career?
Andersen: I’ve got about 12 dollars left in my pocket because of Chick-fil-A, but I can go to the ATM any time and withdraw a limit of $300.
Q: OK, but you played at 36 or 37 years old this year. How much do you have left?
Andersen: Man, you are terrible with numbers. I can withdraw from the ATM $300. I don’t know where you get 36, 37.
