A TV meteorologist claims her millionaire ex-boyfriend forced her to abort their baby — and choked her while she was recovering from the procedure, Manhattan court papers show.
“I will kill you and our unborn child if you don’t have an abortion. I will run away to China after I kill you,” Stephen Jones, 48, told Roxanna Haynes, 30, this month, according to prosecutors.
Jones, the $6 million-a-year head of the KPMG auditing firm’s Global Strategy Group, then marched Haynes — a Verizon FIOS 1 meteorologist and former Fox and CBS reporter — to a doctor’s office to abort their fetus even though she wanted to have the baby, authorities said.
About a week later, Jones wrapped his hands around Haynes’ neck during an argument “and forcefully squeezed it, causing her to have trouble breathing and redness to her neck,” a criminal complaint says.
Jones told police he didn’t do anything wrong, saying Haynes “was just hysterical. I was trying to push her off of me,” the papers state.
Jones was arrested on April 19 for alleged harassment, coercion and choking.
He was released on $5,000 bail. Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Louis Nock granted a temporary order of protection requiring him to stay away from Haynes.
Jones’ lawyer said that the exec wanted to break up with Haynes but that she didn’t take it well.
“She told him she was pregnant and demanded a large sum of money to get the abortion,” lawyer Adam Mehrfar said. “The suggestion that she was somehow coerced is preposterous.”
Jones “called the concierge downstairs to ask him to call the police because she wouldn’t leave the apartment,” Mehrfar said in court.
Haynes didn’t respond to requests for comment, but Robert Hamilton, who described himself as her close friend, issued a statement blasting Jones.
“Mr. Jones has the audacity to try that age-old tactic of blaming the victim,” it read. “After literally choking her and telling her he was going to kill her, he now wants you to believe she was the aggressor. That won’t work here. Facts are a stubborn thing.
“We are confident that their ongoing investigation will ensure the real facts come out.”
Haynes, a native of Nashville, Tenn., lists herself on LinkedIn as vice president of a “weather and fashion” company called The Vane in addition to her TV work.
