A vast majority of Americans is bracing for a long, hot summer of racial unrest, a new poll shows.
Ninety-six percent of those surveyed said they expect the nation’s racial problems to continue flaring in the next few months, according to The Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Sunday.
But black and white Americans are divided over the root cause of the unrest — including recent rioting in Baltimore over the death of Freddie Gray.
Six in 10 blacks attributed the discord to “people with longstanding frustrations about police mistreatment of African-Americans that have not been addressed.”
But most whites — 58 percent — said the violence was caused by those using Gray’s death as an excuse for looting.
