When the 31-story César Pelli-designed tower debuted in the fall of 2009 on the city’s famed Paseo de la Reforma, it made a big statement — with sexy, modern interiors by Yabu Pushelberg, the Jean-Georges Vongerichten-helmed J&G Grill, plus a see-and-be-seen terrace off the King Cole Bar.
The 189-room St. Regis Mexico City, set on the fourth to 14th floors (the St. Regis Residences occupy the upper floors) also boasts a Remède Spa, indoor pool and gym with panoramic city views.
When
Visit this summer to take advantage of the hotel’s new culinary offerings. Joining the two-month-old ground-floor tapas restaurant, Candela Romera, will be the Gastronomic Laboratory — Table de Krug, an exclusive, 12-seat private dining room. Scheduled to debut June 18, it will serve a seasonal tasting menu, accompanied by Krug champagnes, three times a week.
Why
While the nearby Four Seasons undergoes renovations, the St. Regis is the best five-star option in this financial and commercial zone of the city.
Works well
Along with impeccable — and extremely gracious — service, the location is ideal, just a 10-minute walk to the vast Chapultepec park that houses multiple museums, a zoo and a castle.
Needs work
As the hotel is situated on a major thoroughfare, traffic noise can be a problem in some of the rooms. Try for one on a higher floor.
Don’t miss
Breakfast on the breezy terrace overlooking the Paseo de la Reforma and dinner at the signature Diana Restaurant, whose menu just got revamped and now offers a fresh take on contemporary Mexican cuisine.
Then join the pretty young things for a gin cocktail on the patio of the new Candela Romera.
Must try
A personal shopping expedition with renowned Mexico City-based stylist Marco Corral, a new addition to the hotel’s signature Cultural Curator program.
Corral will guide your through some of the most fashionable urban districts, such as Polanco, Condesa and Roma Norte.
