A woman was fighting for her life after a taxi struck her Saturday in a crosswalk on West 57th Street at Eighth Avenue in Midtown, police and witnesses said.
Cab driver Babul Miah, 29, was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failing to exercise due care, police said.
Miah struck the pedestrian with his Ford Escape SUV at about 5:30 p.m. Good Samaritans rushed to aid the 20-year-old woman. “People were yelling and in a panic,” said Jakob Massoud, 60, a newsstand worker.
The woman, whose name was not released, was in critical condition at Weill Cornell Medical Center.
