Mindy Lahiri is not only moving to Hulu, she’s getting a new female friend.
“The Mindy Project” will make female friendship a major focus for its central character in its upcoming fourth season, creator and star Mindy Kaling said at BookCon over the weekend.
The romantic comedy, which aired on Fox for its first three seasons, initially cast Anna Camp as Lahiri’s best friend, but she exited the series halfway through the first season when it morphed into more of a workplace comedy focusing on the dynamics between Mindy and her male co-workers played by Chris Messina, Ed Weeks and Ike Barinholtz.
Hulu picked up “The Mindy Project” after Fox canceled the low-rated but critically adored series last month, committing to a 26-episode fourth season.
The comedy will also presumably have to deal with the fallout of Season 3’s cliffhanger ending, where a pregnant Mindy and her boyfriend Danny (Messina) were on the rocks after he revealed he doesn’t want to get married.
