Queens Congressman Gregory Meeks apparently can’t scrounge up enough cash to pay his taxes.
Meeks and wife Simone- Marie were so delinquent that the state filed a $2,346.99 lien against them on Nov. 26, 2014, for unpaid personal income taxes.
The lien now stands at $1,062.92, according to the state Department of Taxation and Finance, which wouldn’t comment on the congressman’s debt.
Meeks is the only state tax deadbeat in New York City’s congressional delegation. Rep. Yvette Clarke of Brooklyn owed $615.95 in 2009 and paid it in two months.
Meeks, a 10-term Democrat and senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, gets a salary of $174,000.
Still, Meeks ranks among the poorer members of Congress, with a net worth in 2013 of negative $570,000, thanks to mortgages on his Queens home, according to the latest tally by Roll Call.
