A Texas State University student who was arrested for drunk driving has found a way to keep riding around town on four wheels — by cruising on a battery-powered, child-sized Barbie Jeep.
Tara Monroe, an industrial engineering junior, had her license automatically suspended recently when she refused to take a breathalyzer test after leaving a Waka Flocka rap concert, MySa.com reports.
Following her DWI arrest, the 20-year-old’s father drove from their hometown of Kingwood, Texas, to San Marcos to take away her car — ultimately leaving her with very little means of transportation.
“Riding a bike around campus sucks. … Like really sucks,” she told MySa.com, when asked to describe the reasoning behind her new whip.
Using her imagination, Monroe took to Craigslist to search for a solution.
The 5-foot-3 brunette stumbled upon a $60 pink Barbie Jeep Wrangler — max speed 5 mph.
“[The owner] asked where the little one was to test drive it to which I replied, ‘I am the little one,’” Monroe said.
“Most people don’t find the things me and my friends do very funny, just immature, so I didn’t expect to get this big of a reaction,” she explained. “People who don’t know me are shocked but my friends weren’t even surprised because I do stuff like this all the time.”
Since purchasing the Barbie Jeep, Monroe has been spotted rolling around Texas State and the Austin West Campus of the University of Texas.
“It goes pretty fast when it’s just me, so I usually make them [her friends] walk behind me like parents taking their kid out to play,” she joked. “I’m just happy everyone thinks this is so hilarious. … This is the best way I could have gotten my 15 minutes of fame. Basically, it was the best decision I’ve made in college, yet…”
