A 17-year-old straphanger was critically injured Friday when another teen stabbed him with a screwdriver aboard a train in Mott Haven, police said. The young victim was riding a southbound 6 train rolling into the Cypress Avenue station just before 9:05 a.m. when the 18-year-old suspect plunged the shaft of the screwdriver into his chest, cops said. The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition.
Investigators believe a man boosted several purses from a clothing store in the Pelham Parkway neighborhood last month. The suspected thief walked into the Dressbarn at the corner of White Plains Road and Lydig Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 10 and started stuffing clutch purses into a white bag, cops said. He dashed out of the store without paying, police said. Police did not immediately know the precise value of the loot. Police have nabbed the suspected trigger man in a year-old homicide in Bedford Park. Jason Polanco, 24, was arrested Thursday on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon for allegedly gunning down 31-year-old Shawn Ross in August 2014. Ross was standing across the street from his home on Decatur Avenue near East 197th Street at around 10:35 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2014, when the gunman approached and opened fire. Multiple rounds caught Ross in the torso. Ross made his way to St. Barnabas Hospital on his own, but he could not be saved.
Brooklyn
A pair of crooks knocked over an East New York bodega at gunpoint, authorities said. They walked into the Ashford Deli & Grill on Ashford Street near Linden Boulevard just before 3:55 p.m. on Aug. 20 and drew guns on the worker, police said. The thieves grabbed $20 from the register and took off running, cops said. No injuries were reported. The suspects are both believed to be between 15 and 20-years-old.
Two thugs robbed a man at gunpoint near an East New York playground, police said. The 28-year-old victim was standing on Blake Avenue near the Cypress Hills Playground at around 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 21 when the suspects accosted him, cops said. As one mugger trained a gun on the victim, his accomplice yanked a gold necklace from his neck, authorities said. The duo also snatched a diamond ring, a cellphone and about $100 cash, cops said. The victim was not injured. The gun-toting suspect wore a black hoodie, while his accomplice wore a red hat with a black visor.
Queens
Two creeps swiped a woman’s cellphone aboard a train passing through Corona, and then shoved her down a flight of stairs when she gave chase, cops said. The 35-year-old victim was riding the Manhattan-bound 7 train at around 1:50 p.m. on Aug. 22 when the thieves ripped the Galaxy S6 from her hand near the Junction Boulevard station, police said. When the doors opened at the station, the duo ran out — with the gutsy victim hot on their trail, authorities said. The victim managed to get a hand on the suspects, but they coldly pushed her down the stairs and gave her the slip, cops said. The victim was treated for an elbow injury at Elmhurst Hospital.
Detectives are looking to question 30-year-old Luis Zambrano after the badly decomposed body of his missing girlfriend, Angie Escobar, was found in the trunk of her father’s car. Zambrano, who stands about 5-foot-7 and weighs 200 pounds, was allegedly the last to drive the car. Cops made the gruesome discovery when they opened the vehicle after smelling a foul odor.
