WASHINGTON — Hillary Rodham Clinton won’t have a speaking role at the Clinton Global Initiative conference in Midtown this month following reports about contributions from foreign governments and companies that clouded the rollout of her presidential campaign.
Clinton had joined the Clinton Foundation, which includes the CGI, when she stepped down as secretary of state in 2013, and she was prominently featured at the CGI Annual Meeting last year as a panelist and in other roles.
That won’t be the case this year, when the event kicks off Sept. 26.
“Secretary Clinton doesn’t have a role in the CGI program or a speaking role this year,” foundation spokesman Craig Minassian told MSNBC.
Minassian noted Clinton also didn’t have a speaking role in 2007 during her last presidential campaign.
Her campaign has been dogged by reports of companies making contributions to the Clinton Foundation or paying for speeches by her or Bill Clinton.
Many of the donors also had business before the State Department while Hillary Clinton was working there.
