Kermit and Miss Piggy proved they can still draw a crowd as their new show “The Muppets” opened to nearly 9 million viewers Tuesday at 8 p.m.
The ABC comedy revival — which follows the behind-the-scenes drama at a late-night talk show called “Up Late With Miss Piggy” — also averaged a strong 2.8 rating in the advertiser-coveted demo of adults under 50.
Kermit & Co. beat out Fox’s much-hyped, two-hour “Scream Queens” premiere, which drew an average of 4 million viewers from 8-10 p.m. (and a 1.7 rating with adults 18-49).
The horror comedy starring Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele and Nick Jonas moves to Tuesdays at 9 p.m. next week.
Tuesday’s third series premiere, CBS’ “Limitless” — based on the 2011 Bradley Cooper feature — topped both shows among total viewers (9.8 million) at 10 p.m. but averaged a soft 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo.
