Empty-handed after a robbery try at a Chase bank, a suspect succeed 25 minutes later at a Chase branch nearby and walked away with $1,175. The failed heist went down at 2:55 p.m. Friday at the branch at Sixth Avenue and West Fourth street in Greenwich Village. The crook passed a note to a teller reading, “Don’t turn around. I have a gun,” police sources said. “I don’t understand this,” the teller replied. The would-be robber fled empty-handed. Undaunted, at 3:20 p.m. he entered the branch at West Fourth and Grove streets. This time, he passed a threatening note and demanded cash from a teller, who handed over $1,175. He’s about 52 years old, 5-foot-7 and 190 pounds.
An alleged cellphone thief tried in vain to hide from his pursuers Saturday in a catering hall next door to iconic Harlem soul-food joint Sylvia’s, witnesses and police sources said. Anthony Johnson, 22, allegedly filched the phone from a fellow resident at the Create Inc. young adult homeless residence on West 128th Street near Lenox Avenue at about 8:30 a.m., cops said. Two men from the shelter chased the suspect down Lenox, where he ducked into a parking area between Sylvia’s and its next-door banquet hall, called Sylvia’s Also, witnesses said. He found an unlocked service door, ran down to the basement and locked himself in a restroom, workers said. Cops were called, and Johnson gave himself up after 20 minutes, said law-enforcement authorities. He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
Queens
The four suspects pictured above held up a Richmond Hill barbershop at gunpoint, authorities said. The men, two of whom were wielding guns, stormed into the HoneyComb Barbershop on Liberty Avenue near 132nd Street just before 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 21, police said. They forced a 27-year-old worker into the basement, where they swiped his cellphone, iPad and about $52 cash, cops said. He wasn’t injured. Investigators recovered the surveillance photo of the suspects from a bodega down the street.
The Bronx
A 25-year-old man was wounded in a shooting Friday in Claremont Village, but is refusing to help investigators find his assailant, police sources said. The man was shot in the arm on Webster Avenue near East 169th Street at 9:05 p.m., cops said. The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital.
