A man was shot by police in Brooklyn on Sunday night — after he tried to mug a plainclothes detective.
The 20-year-old man, identified as Altron Atwater, pulled a realistic-looking BB gun and attempted to rob the cop of his cell phone at Monroe Street and Bedford Avenue at 6:40 p.m., according to law-enforcement sources.
After the detective handed over his phone, he quickly pulled out his gun and shot Atwater in the torso.
Atwater received non-life-threatening injuries.
Another 16-year-old suspect involved in the botched robbery was detained at the scene. Police were looking for a third suspect who fled.
The cop involved in the shooting was with two other detectives investigating Atwater and his pals for a robbery pattern in which the suspects would post phony ads on Craigslist advertising an apartment.
When the suspects would show up, the three would use the BB gun to rob the victims.
The suspects have robbed at least four people through their crooked rental scheme since late September, Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said Monday.
Charges against the two captured males were pending Monday.
