When it comes to delivering weep-worthy songs, Adele is spectacularly consistent. Her style, however, has been a work in progress — but that’s why we love her, right? She’s an anomaly — a real person, not some over-glamorized, hypersexualized pop robot.

In and out of the spotlight for nearly a decade now, the 27-year-old singer has always kept it real when it comes to clothes. When she first hit the music scene in 2007, most of her ensembles cried, “I don’t care, I can sing!”

But then Anna Wintour — fashion’s fairy godmother — intervened.

“She turned me into a lady,” Adele told Grazia after the Vogue impresario styled her for the 2009 Grammy Awards. “I felt a bit awkward at first. I couldn’t walk in the shoes, so I ended up wandering around the Grammys barefoot. But after a while I started to enjoy fashion, once I’d discovered what I like and what suits me.”

And it’s all been a steady crescendo from there.

In honor of her new album, “25,” which officially dropped Friday, let’s say hello to Ms. Adkins’ style evolution in the gallery above.
