When you stop turning the ball over, good things tend to happen.
Just ask the resurgent Chiefs, who have bounced back from a 1-5 start and thrust themselves back into the thick of the AFC playoff race with four consecutive victories — all of them turnover-free by Kansas City.
Not only is Andy Reid’s team (which moves up to No. 15 in The Post’s Weekly NFL Power Rankings this week) playing virtually error-free football on offense, but the Chiefs’ defense has been making opponents cough up the ball at a furious rate lately.
Kansas City has forced 12 turnovers during its current winning streak, including five in a win over the Broncos two weeks ago and two in a 33-3 rout of the Chargers on the road last week.
That plus-12 turnover margin is a big reason the Chiefs are averaging 32.5 points during their win streak after averaging 21.6 points while losing five of their first six contests.
This week’s rankings (last week in parentheses):
1. Patriots, 10-0 (1): New England is scoring on an NFL-best 50.4 percent of its total possessions this season.
2. Panthers, 10–0 (2): Cam Newton has thrown 15 touchdown passes and no interceptions inside the opponents’ 20-yard line this season.
3. Cardinals, 8-2 (4): Arizona’s average of 33.6 points a game is the highest in the league and one point better than the second-place Patriots.
4. Broncos, 8-2 (7): Denver has forced just two turnovers in its past four games after forcing 17 turnovers in its first six contests.
5. Packers, 7-3 (8): Green Bay has committed just six turnovers in 10 games, the fewest in the NFL and two fewer than second-place Kansas City.
6. Vikings, 7-3 (3): Teddy Bridgewater’s eight touchdown passes are the fewest by an active starter with more than three starts this season.
