Jon Snow, Jon Snow: his morose image is everywhere, hair streaming into the wind like a lost soul on a ’70s folk-rock album cover.
The image of Snow (Kit Harington) dominates the Season 6 trailer for “Game of Thrones,” which HBO dropped on Thursday afternoon.
While Snow gazes forlornly (he has his reasons) into the bleak terrain, an ominous deep voice pipes up: “We watch, we listen, we remember. The past is written. The ink is dry.” It’s not James Earl Jones, but the amazing Max von Sydow (“The Exorcist”), who plays the Three-Eyed Raven.
Just in case you’ve forgotten that “GoT” is a big-budget bloodbath, the trailer cuts to a montage of some of the show’s messier moments: Ned Stark (Sean Bean) getting his head chopped off and Jaime Lannister (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau) getting his hand chopped off. And, of course, Snow bleeding to death in the, well, snow.
Then we see someone who’s very much alive, but who’s been out of sight, under the tutelage of the Raven: Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), the whites of his eyes showing, as he says, “They have no idea what is going to happen.”
Whatever happens when “GoT” returns in April, it’s going to be bloody.
