A motorist who went on a rampage on the Upper East Side — striking several pedestrians with his car before getting out and punching a traffic agent — told cops he was on his way to commit suicide, court papers say.
“I honestly was on my way to the Empire State Building because I wanted to jump off,” Cameron Coelho, 27, told cops shortly after his arrest for the Christmas Eve vehicular attacks.
“I wanted to go out in a glorious way,” he told police. “Now I understand that what I did was wrong.”
The schizophrenic had not taken his medication for eight months, he told cops.
Coelho hit a bicyclist and a taxi as he flew through red lights, court papers show.
He pleaded not guilty to reckless endangerment, assault and other charges at his arraignment Monday in Manhattan Supreme Court.
Justice Michael Obus set bail at $15,000.
