Yoenis Cespedes’ market may be heating up after a dormant first two months as a free agent.
According to MASNsports.com, the Orioles have made an undisclosed offer to Cespedes after publicly pulling their seven-year, $150 million deal from Chris Davis.
Baltimore had been discussing a five-year offer in the range of $75-90 million for Cespedes, according to ESPN.
The 30-year-old Cespedes batted .291 with 35 home runs and 105 RBIs while splitting time with the Tigers and Mets last year. Cespedes’ torrid second half with the Mets — he blasted 17 home runs and drove in 44 RBI in just 57 games — helped lead them back to the World Series for the first time in 15 years.
The Mets have not offered Cespedes a contract, instead focusing on smaller, cost-effective additions in acquiring second baseman Neil Walker and signing shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.
The Orioles finished in third place in the American League East last season with an 81-81 record after having finishing first in 2014 with a 96-66 campaign.
