A rabbi who inspected kosher foods for the Orthodox Union claims he was forced out when he started complaining about kosher-food giant Manischewitz not adhering to kosher practices.
Rabbi Yaakov Horowitz had to take an extended medical leave on behalf of the OU because they made his “performance impossible,” says his lawsuit filed this week in Manhattan.
The rabbi got “the clear, but unstated, message” that to keep his job “he should do everything in his power to keep Manischewitz happy, even if this meant compromising his personal religious principles,” the complaint states.
The OU said that the “suspiciously timed” suit is “entirely without merit” and that Manischewitz meets the highest kosher standards.
