Warning: This article contains spoilers from the “Game of Thrones” Season 6 premiere.
Last season, it was Jon Snow (Kit Harrington). In Season 4 of “Game of Thrones,” poor old Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) was murdered, with a crossbow, by his son Tyrion. Now that Season 6 has started in grisly fashion (the Prince of Dorne was among the casualties), we wonder which major character will bite the Westeros dust next.
Predictions have been posted on many sites, and some make more sense than others. For example, of course Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) is going to die. He’s already turning to stone. That’s too easy. Is it time for another Stark death or another Lannister to go? The show is running out of major characters to dispose of, but here are some thoughts.
Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon)
We saw what Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) did last season to poor Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane). It wasn’t pretty. Now that she is in the service of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), there’s no question that Ramsay, Sansa’s oppressor, is dead meat. It’s just a question of how long the producers string out the inevitable.
Odds to die: 2-to-1
Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage)
Tyrion traveled all the way to Meereen last season with his companion and adviser, Varys (Conleth Hill), to meet with Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) to discuss strategies for ruling should one of them ascend the Iron Throne. With Daenerys temporarily sidelined in the season premiere, Tyrion is left alone — and vulnerable. In the coming attractions, we see Tyrion having a potentially nasty encounter with a dragon. Will this be the season he pays for his Season 4 crime of patricide?
Odds to die: 3-to-1
Jaime Lannister (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau)
With Cersei (Lena Headey) off the hook following last season’s Walk of Shame, our attention focuses on her twin brother/lover Jaime. He has many scores to settle — one with the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce), who humiliated Cersei, the other with the vicious Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma), murderess of his daughter Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free). With only one working arm, Jaime is not the warrior he used to be. He can lead an army, as we see in the coming attractions, but when it comes to one-on-one combat, he is a compromised fellow.
Odds to die: 6-to-1
King Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman)
In a Season 6 trailer released by HBO, Cersei is seen encouraging the last of her three children (the other two, Joffrey and Myrcella, have been murdered) to embrace his royal heritage. If Cersei is asking the teenager to go to war, is it because his father, Jaime Lannister, is already dead? We think Cersei’s expectations are too high where Tommen is concerned. If he is sent into battle, he’s not coming home.
Odds to die: Even
Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman)
Unless we are mistaken, he looks to be on the wrong end of a sword in the second trailer for Season 6 posted by HBO. In his absence, Daenerys becomes more vulnerable.
Odds to die: Even
Petyr Baelish (Aidan Gillen)
Way too clever to let anyone get the better of him, Littlefinger may actually ascend the Throne when fate has finished off the Lannisters and Daenerys.
Odds-to-die: 30-to-1
Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham)
Loyal to Jon Snow, Davos is likely to come head-to-head with Snow’s killer, Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale). In the coming attactions, Davos takes up arms against the Night’s Watch. Will he fight them off or fall to his death? We bet he will prevail.
Odds-to-die: 30-to-1.
