A hit-and-run driver in a stolen SUV struck two pedestrians who were waiting to cross a Brooklyn street Sunday, critically injuring one of them, cops said.
The injured duo — a 57-year-old woman and 31-year-old man — were standing at the corner of Avenue K and 94th Street in Canarsie at about 12:50 p.m. when the stolen Toyota 4Runner had a collision with another car, police said. The stolen vehicle then mounted the sidewalk and hit the pedestrians, according to cops and witnesses.
Two people were seen running from the 4Runner, witnesses said.
“Before the crash, you could see that the couple was just standing on the corner there waiting to cross the street, and that’s when the two cars collided right in front of them, and the 4Runner just slid right over the woman,” said a resident who provided surveillance video to cops but declined to identify himself.
“It was a stolen car — that’s what the cops told us — and you can see in the video the two young kids running down the block,” he said.
The woman was left critical, while the man was in stable condition. Both were taken to Brookdale Hospital.
