New York politicians expressed outrage Friday over revelations that the Obama administration lied about its handling of the Iran nuke deal.
Top Obama foreign-policy aide Ben Rhodes boasted that he spread a false story to the media that US negotiators were dealing with Iranian moderates, not the hard-liners who despise America.
“What an absolute disgrace — what a farce! Not only were Iranians laughing at us, our government was laughing at us,” said Brooklyn Democratic Assemblyman Dov Hikind.
Hikind likened the nuke-control agreement to British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s signing of the infamous 1938 Munich agreement that allowed the Nazis to annex parts of then-Czechoslovakia.
“I can’t say I’m shocked,” he added. “This was so obvious that we were being manipulated. It became all about the Obama legacy, and they pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes. What mattered was just getting a deal at any cost. It’s insulting.”
Hikind also slammed Obama for having the audacity to tell the US and Israeli public that the Iran deal was good for Israel.
“Never mind that [Israel Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, who is a right-winger, all the parties to the left and all Israelis were against [the deal]. What chutzpah!”
Rep. Peter King (R-LI), who also rejected the deal with Iran, called it a “hoax on the American people.”
“Obama was so intent on getting this agreement with Iran,” he said. “He wanted to sell it to the American people, and that is what the Iranian government wanted.”
When asked about the report that the Obama administration sold Americans a lie by saying that US officials were dealing with “moderates” in Iran rather than the theocrats, King said: “There is no real difference between their hard-liners and moderates.”
“The administration was out of control,” added King, who has said it was wrong for Obama to submit the deal to the UN before Congress had voted on it.
