Donald Trump, with the GOP nomination within his grasp, egged on Bernie Sanders to run as an independent Thursday.
“Bernie Sanders has been treated terribly by the Democrats — both with delegates & otherwise. He should show them, & run as an Independent,” he wrote on Twitter.
Sanders has refused to concede the Democratic race to front-runner Hillary Clinton — and Trump would benefit in the general election should Sanders run on his own and take his supporters with
him.
Trump first broached the idea last month.
Sanders on Thursday was not giving up the Democratic fight, crisscrossing West Virginia ahead of next Tuesday’s primary.
Clinton, meanwhile, had California in her sights with an evening speech in Los Angeles.
The Golden State could be the clincher for Clinton on June 7.
