A 43-year-old woman was found brutally murdered in a Staten Island basement in what police have labeled a murder-suicide.
Iwona Pawliszyn, 43, was repeatedly stabbed in the body and neck, and also suffered a gash to her throat, according to police sources. Her body was found in her home on Buffalo Street in Bay Terrace at about 10:27 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Her estranged husband, identified by neighbors and sources as Pawel Pawliszyn, was found Saturday in his mother’s home in Poughkeepsie dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sources said.
A woman who answered the phone at the Poughkeepsie address broke down in tears and said, “Pawel killed himself.” The woman later identified herself as his mother.
Pawel Pawliszyn moved to Poughkeepsie after he separated from his wife.
His Facebook page includes pictures of One World Trade Center posted Friday morning.
On Thursday, Pawliszyn eerily posted a serene shot of Great Kills Harbor with the tag: “Watching Sun down with my kids . . . priceless!!”
Iwona Pawliszyn’s neighbors were stunned.
“You wouldn’t have expected this in a million years,” said 40-something-year-old Emil Cangro.
