ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Atlantic City is considering a policy that would allow booze on the Boardwalk.
The city council plans to vote Wednesday on an ordinance that would allow anyone 21 and older to walk on the Boardwalk with an open container of alcohol.
The law would require that the booze be bought from licensed beverage businesses adjacent to the Boardwalk. The container also must display the name or logo of that business.
The ordinance is meant to encourage pedestrian traffic.
Councilman Kaleem Shabazz says that is the measure is passed, a trial period would be held over the summer, and that police and numerous businesses are on board.
City alcohol regulators tell The Press of Atlantic City that the policy could benefit the city as it faces the possibility of losing its casino monopoly in the state.
