Backyard spas are the ultimate splurge

Who wants to leave their luxurious Hamptons retreat to get pampered? Now many estates come with their own spa houses, blending privacy with relaxation.

The $25 million compound listing at 141 & 145 Sayres Path in Wainscott boasts a private 3,400-square-foot indoor-outdoor spa, designed by Bernt Heiberg and Bill Cummings of Heiberg Cummings Design. Features include saunas, a caldarium, a tepidarium and a massage room, plus hot and cold plunge pools.

“We’re so jaded out here because we see the best of the best, but no one ever sees anything like this,” says the Corcoran Group’s Elaine Stimmel, who along with James Brockman is marketing this listing. The two also represent the $3.49 million listing at 8 Ackerly St. in Sag Harbor, whose separate 800-square-foot spa includes a steam room, sauna, fireplace, outdoor shower and radiant-heated floors, also designed by Heiberg Cummings.

Others are conjoined spaces. At 41 Halsey Lane in Water Mill — a property asking $19.75 million for its sale and $695,000 for the summer — a pool house with massage room stands at one end of the estate’s heated pool.

“When you’re getting a massage, you can look out at the water,” says Martha Gundersen of Brown Harris Stevens, who shares this listing with Corcoran’s Gary DePersia. The two also share 490 Hedges Lane in Sagaponack — available for $18.99 million — whose pool house includes a massage space as well.

Don’t fancy a walk outside? Other homes feature built-in spa escapes. One of them, a Sotheby’s-represented East Hampton property priced at $39 million for 23 acres (or $22 million for 10 acres), includes a main house with a lower-level steam room, sauna, massage room and a large sunken indoor hot bath. After all, not every day is a beach day.
