Manhattan Democratic Party chairman Keith Wright is coming under fire for pushing fellow Dems to back Phaedra Perry, law clerk to his brother, state Supreme Court Judge Geoffrey Wright, for a civil clerk judgeship.
Keith, currently running for Congress, has been allegedly jawboning Democratic elected officials and other party members to support the nomination of Perry at the party’s judicial convention on Sunday.
But some Democrats said Keith’s arm-twisting smacks of favoritism.
“It is an appalling abuse of the democratic process,” said longtime judicial delegate Alan Flacks.
“A candidate who has very little to recommend except that she is the law clerk to his brother.”
But Keith insisted to The Post’s Carl Campanile he wasn’t playing favorites, noting that Perry’s name was recommended by the party’s “rigorous” judicial screening panel.
He further said he did not campaign on her behalf, and, “I have no preferred candidate. Whoever came out of the screening panel is eminently qualified. Yeah, she serves as my brother’s law clerk. So what?”
