Cop who said he was sleepwalking during assault busted for DUI

A disgraced cop who claimed he was sleepwalking when he broke into a woman’s home and beat her after a night of partying was busted Sunday for drunkenly flipping his car in Manhattan, law-enforcement sources said.

Off-duty NYPD Officer Eugene Donnelly, 29, was swerving in his car down Riverside Drive when he struck several parked vehicles near West 135th Street and flipped over at around 12:45 a.m., the sources said.

Cops found him trapped in the car allegedly reeking of booze. He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with minor injuries.

He was later charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired, police said. He was arraigned at Manhattan Criminal Court Sunday night and released on his own recognizance.

Donnelly, who was assigned to the 46th Precinct in The Bronx, has been on modified duty since the supposed sleepwalking attack in June 2014. He allegedly broke down the door of a woman’s apartment and attacked her, punching her in the face while ranting incoherently.

Just a day earlier, he had received the NYPD’s Combat Cross for his bravery in arresting a gunman who tried to shoot him in 2012.

Donnelly celebrated the award by going out and getting blind drunk before passing out at a buddy’s apartment in Woodlawn, authorities said.

Early the next morning, he left the apartment wearing nothing but his underwear and broke into the woman’s apartment, sending her into a panic, they said.

“Shhh, it’s OK. Just put a shirt on,” the cop told the terrified woman when she leaped out of her bed, according to court documents.

“Sometimes I’m a good guy, but sometimes I’m a bad guy,” he also told her.

He then beat her in the face, officials said.

Donnelly’s lawyers argued that he had been sleepwalking and suffering from PTSD associated with the 2012 shooting that won him the award.

He’s next set to appear in court in June for the attack.
