Correction officers’ union sued for barring Seabrook rival

The Correction union headed by Norman Seabrook is being taken to court for barring a foe from trying to unseat him in next month’s election.

Correction Officer William Valentin says he was unfairly prevented from getting on the ballot in his attempt to unseat Seabrook, who has headed the Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association since 1995.

Valentin’s lawyer, Philip Seelig, told The Post that his client was unlawfully removed as the union’s secretary more than a year ago on bogus procedural grounds, an effort meant to neutralize Valentin after he began asking questions about the union’s finances and Seabrook’s leadership.

Seabrook is already being eyed as part of federal prosecutors’ wide-ranging corruption probes of the influence of two Orthodox Jewish businessmen on the NYPD and Mayor de Blasio’s fund-raising efforts.

Marc Steier, the lawyer representing COBA, has said Valentin was nixed as a candidate for Seabrook’s position because he failed to follow certain union bylaws.
