A Long Island couple was busted for keeping this Capuchin monkey at their home for nearly 20 years, officials said Sunday.
Authorities seized the 22-year-old monkey, named Luna, from the Brentwood home Friday.
The monkeys come from Central and South America and are famous for their appearances in TV shows and movies such as “Friends” and “Night at the Museum.’’
But their cute demeanor is deceptive.
“It might look small, but they are fairly strong with sharp teeth and claws,” warned Ronald Gross, an officer from the state Department of Environmental Conservation, Sunday.
Luna will be transferred to a wildlife facility.
The couple will not face jail time because they cooperated with authorities, but face a fine of up to $250.
