“Money Monster” put lower Manhattan in the money — dropping $300,000 into local businesses during its shoot last year.
The Jodie Foster-directed flick, starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, stood out among film projects in the city in 2015 by going out of its way to spend locally, Crain’s New York Business reported.
The cast and crew operated out of the Andaz Wall Street Hotel rather than trailers and spent more than $30,000 to hire local labor, Crain’s said.
The city also tallied more than $18,000 from the movie spent at 26 businesses on Beaver and Pearl streets, the magazine said.
Sony Pictures TriStar Productions even shelled out $50,000 in “walk away lunch money” — prepaid meal cards for crew to cash in at local eateries.
Foster said it was worth it to get a New York flavor into the movie that hit big screens last weekend.
“The city became one of the stars of this film,” she said.
