Midtown cops investigating a man suspected of being a phony Maserati salesman were stunned to discover the alleged con artist is dating an officer at their own precinct, law-enforcement sources told The Post on Monday.
Officer Julia Goldman, 27, who works in Midtown North, was placed on modified duty after cops learned that Richard Barters, 29, is her boyfriend, according to the sources.
She was standing next to Barters, of Long Island, when he was arrested Sunday in Midtown after he allegedly scammed a man out of $10,000 by promising him a Maserati that he never delivered, the sources said.
Detectives set up a sting operation in which they had Hooman Mozaffari, of Irvington, Westchester, County, call Barters to set up a meeting Saturday.
Barters allegedly promised to “import and sell” Mozaffari, 37, the fancy car but cut off communication after taking his cash, according to the sources.
The NYPD said Goldman was put on modified duty “for the good of the department.”
Goldman could not be reached for comment, and sources say she was ignorant of Barters’ alleged crime.
