The feds are reportedly investigating campaign donations made to Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a close associate of Bill and Hillary Clinton.
The FBI and prosecutors from the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Unit are also scrutinizing McAuliffe’s stint as a board member of the Clinton Global Initiative, part of the charitable foundation set up by former President Bill Clinton, CNN reported Monday.
Investigators are particularly interested in overlapping donations to McAuliffe’s campaign and the foundation.
McAuliffe was co-chairman of Bill Clinton’s 1996 re-election campaign and chaired Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential bid.
Marc Elias, a lawyer for the McAuliffe campaign, said, “The governor will certainly cooperate with the government if he is contacted about it.”
