Twitter is about to get a little more wordy

Twitter is changing the rules to give users more room in each post, the company announced Tuesday.

Social media buffs will be able to cram more into each tweet when the firm stops counting images towards its 140-character limit in coming months, reps for the firm announced in a blog post.

Attachments such as photos, videos, and GIFs — which previously racked up 24 characters — will no longer count towards the total limit, according to the social media giant.

And “@username” tweets will also no longer count, either, the company said.

Other planned changes tap into social media self-love with a new feature that allows users to retweet their own tweets.

“You can easily Retweet or Quote Tweet yourself when you want to share a new reflection or feel like a really good one went unnoticed,” according to Twitter.

The firm also plans to make tweets more public by allowing posts that with begin with “@username” to reach all followers instead of just two people.

“We’re exploring ways to make existing uses easier and enable new ones, all without compromising the unique brevity and speed that make Twitter the best place for live commentary, connections, and conversations,” the firm said in the blog post.
