Google drones will drop Chipotle burritos on college students
These lucky college students can forget about late-night food runs for a while.
Alphabet, Google’s parent company, will use drones to deliver Chipotle Mexican Grill orders to students at Virginia Tech university, according to a report.
Alphabet’s Project Wing will test the service — the most extensive yet of drone delivery — this month for a few weeks after gaining approval from the Federal Aviation Administratio, Bloomberg News reported.
The drones, which will pick up deliveries from a nearby Chipotle food truck, will hover overhead and use a winch to lower the food to students at the Blacksburg, Va., school.
“It’s the first time that we’re actually out there delivering stuff to people who want that stuff,” Dave Vos, who heads Project Wing, told Bloomberg.
The experiment is aimed at testing whether the packaging will protect and keep the food warm, according to the report.
