PLYMOUTH, Mass. — A Massachusetts woman whose 5-month old daughter drank heroin-laced baby formula and died has been sentenced to up to eight years in prison.
Ashley Cyr was also sentenced Thursday to five years of probation after pleading guilty in Plymouth Superior Court to manslaughter and reckless child endangerment.
The 29-year-old Cyr’s plea came a day after the baby’s father, 33-year-old Ryan Barry, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to up to 12 years behind bars.
Their daughter, Mya, was found unresponsive in their Marshfield apartment in September 2011. Rescuers say the baby was cold to the touch and wasn’t breathing.
Police found heroin and hypodermic needles in the bedroom the couple shared. Officers also found a baby’s bottle containing opioids.
The medical examiner ruled that Mya died of opioid poisoning.
