His American life includes living with bed bugs and rodents in a rundown Chelsea apartment, a new lawsuit says.
Ira Glass, the creator of the famed National Public Radio weekly broadcast “This American Life,” and his wife are getting sued by their condo board for allegedly refusing to address a bed-bug infestation in their one-bedroom home.
A complaint filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday accuses Glass and his wife, Anaheed Alani, of allowing “an infestation of bedbugs” in the unit at 159 W. 24th St., which they purchased for $1.27 million in 2012. The infestation started in June, according to the lawsuit.
It also alleges that “unsanitary conditions” in the apartment led to an infestation of rodents.
“Other conditions exist in the unit, including broken/defective air condition unit, kitchen sink, dishwasher and washing machine,” the complaint adds, saying leaks from the apartment have damaged other units.
The couple hasn’t allowed the building’s landlord to exterminate the apartment — and now they’re suing to get access and rid the place of the pesky bugs, according to court documents.
“The conditions crated and/or allowed in the unit have caused other occupants of the building to vacate the building and/or interfered with the comfort, safety and quiet enjoyment of other occupants of the building,” the complaint says.
The building’s board of managers is also demanding money to pay for repair costs in the apartment.
When asked about the lawsuit, Glass insisted the issue had already been addressed.
“My understanding is another apartment in the building has bed bugs,” he told The Post. “We paid a bunch of money for exterminators. As far as I know, it’s been resolved. We’re done.”
Alani said the lawsuit’s accusations were simply “not true.”
