The Trump campaign has released a new ad whacking Hillary Clinton for calling half of Donald Trump’s supporters “deplorable.”
“Speaking to wealthy donors, Hillary Clinton called tens of millions of Americans ‘deplorable,'” states the voiceover in the ad.
The ad, titled “Deplorable,” then cuts to Clinton’s remarks from a Friday fundraiser: “You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘Basket of Deplorables.’ The racists, sexists, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it.”
The voiceover then states: “People like you . . . you . . . and you. ‘Deplorable.’ You know what’s deplorable? Hillary Clinton viciously demonizing hard-working people like you.”
The Trump campaign said the ad will air in Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Florida, all battleground states. It’s unclear when the first spot will hit the airwaves.
“’Deplorable’ is a response to the incredibly offensive comments Hillary Clinton made last Friday in front of reporters and her wealthy donor friends, and serves as a call to action for the tens of millions of hard-working Americans she viciously demonized – to stand united against the Clinton-led rigged Washington system,” said Trump senior communications advisor Jason Miller.
After her initial comments, Clinton said in a statement that she regretted using the term “half” but vowed to continue calling out bigotry in Trump’s campaign.
