This wacky Long Island married couple assaulted a female police officer who was called to their home following report that the husband threatened passersby with a shovel, police said Wednesday.
Stephen Visconti, 57, was sitting on the front patio of his Babylon home at around 9:25 p.m.Tuesday when a Suffolk County police officer and sergeant showed up in response to a 911 call of a man waving a shovel at people outside.
While cops were questioning Visconti, his wife Pamela Visconti, 58, exited the house on Whalers Cove and positioned herself between the officer and her husband, Suffolk County police said.
When the sergeant tried to remove Pamela from the patio, Stephen raised his arm and threatened to throw a coffee mug at the officer who then shocked him with a Taser, according to police.
Stephen, who able to withstand the shock and pull the darts from his body, then hurled the coffee mug at the officer’s head.
At some point the sergeant and Pamela fell backward as he was trying to remove her. The combative woman then grabbed ahold of the police baton and whacked the officer in the forehead, police said.
Stephen then raised a long-handle shovel high above his head, threatening to hit the officer, cops said.
The sergeant pushed Stephen away and the couple then went back inside their home.
They exited a short time later and were arrested. Pamela was charged with second-degree assault and Stephen was charged with obstructing governmental administration and menacing.
