Woman struck by debris during deadly Tribeca crane collapse sues city

A New Jersey woman struck by falling debris during a deadly February crane collapse in Tribeca is suing the city and construction firms who “should have known” about the dangerous conditions that day.

Dawn Kojima, 45, was walking along Worth Street as the massive crane with a 565-foot boom suddenly toppled over.

Kojima suffered head and leg injuries in the Feb. 5 catastrophe, court papers say.

The crane crash killed Harvard-trained math whiz David Wichs, 38, who was walking along Worth.

Thomas O’Brien, 73, of North Easton, Mass., nearly died when the crane crashed onto his car. He sued the city in March for $30 million.

Kojima’s Manhattan Supreme Court suit, which names the city, along with crane and rigging operators and engineers, alleges that they “knew or should have
known of the high wind conditions and heavy wet snow forecast” for that day and Worth Street should have been shut to traffic.

The married Kojima, of Nutley, studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, according to her Facebook page.
