The 90th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade got rolling Thursday morning, cheered by millions of revelers and under the watchful eye of thousands of New York’s finest.
Marching bands, floats and huge balloons began their southward journey at Central Park West and 77th Street at the stroke of 9 a.m. under sunny skies and brisk 41 -degree temps.
About 3.5 million parade-goers were expected to line the route between the Upper West Side and the event’s end at Herald Square.
Millions more enjoyed the event from the warmth of their homes, as NBC hyped their shows.
“This (parade music) scored my entire childhood,” actor Ben Feldman of 30 Rock’s comedy “Superstore” said from the route. “It’s surreal, it’s a little terrifying and a lot of fun.”
The NYPD said there are no credible threats against Thursday’s big event, but uniformed police were still an omnipresent force up and down the parade path.
