If Nick Young didn’t have to answer to the church basketball league, he now may have to go before a judge for allegedly lashing out against an opponent in a pick-up game.
Young is the subject of a lawsuit filed by Luis Solis, who claims the enigmatic Lakers guard let his anger get the best of him during a game at the Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch, Cal., in August.
According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Young was “enraged” when the referee didn’t call a foul on Solis after a particular play and took it out on his opponent, throwing him to the ground and hitting him while he was down. Young’s teammates allegedly joined in the beatdown, kicking him repeatedly and inflicting serious injuries, including a concussion, Solis says.
Young’s temper is a recurring problem during pick-up games, according to Solis, who is suing for damages and reportedly is considering filing a police report. Neither Young nor the Lakers have commented on the suit.
The allegations are coming at an unfortunate time for the 31-year-old, who’s trying to resurrect his Lakers career after a drama-filled 2015-16 season, in which a cheating scandal cost him his engagement to rapper Iggy Azalea and damaged his friendship with teammate D’Angelo Russell.
Young is averaging 14.1 points per game through the first 17 games this season.
