City straphangers were outraged to learn Sunday that PATH workers are getting paid big bucks to sleep on the job as fares continue to rise.
“The tolls, the fares, everything is getting so expensive. That these PA guys get paid a lot of money to sleep is ridiculous,” fumed Sela Montrez, 38, who took the train from New Jersey to Manhattan to shop.
As The Post exclusively reported Sunday, some PATH employees earn up to five hours of overtime while napping on the job — fraud that is under investigation by the Port Authority inspector general.
Passengers said they now understand why train service can be so bad.
“Nothing gets done. Now we know why. They need naps while working. Me, I would be fired for doing that,” said train rider Wilton Graves, 27.
Straphanger Don Valore, 51, said: “All of the PA is corrupt from top to bottom. The commuter pays for it. Everything runs bad because they are all sleeping.”
PA supervisors are trying to identify the people who shared information and photos of napping workers with The Post after the story ran, an insider said.
