Thursday at 9 p.m. is the deadline for fans to participate in an online auction that will send proceeds toward revitalizing baseball and softball fields in memory of Shannon Forde in her hometown of Little Ferry, N.J. Forde is the longtime Mets public relations employee who succumbed to breast cancer in March.
The auction is taking place at MLB.com/Shannon.
“I think what MLB is doing for Shannon is awesome,” David Wright said in a statement. “They have some great items up for bid. I might bid on some of the items myself. She was such a big part of my career in New York. It’s not the same without her. I’m honored that her son Nick wears my number 5 and plays third base.”
